Still have questions about The GenWell Project? Below are some of the common questions we’ve been asked. Click on the question and see what we have to say.

  • CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE GenWell Project

The GenWell Project is a movement that was inspired by the face to face connections and conversations that resulted from the summer blackout of 2003 on the Eastern seaboard of Canada and the United States. With the pressures and distractions that keep us preoccupied each day in our lives powered off or disconnected, we connected. Face to Face. It is the importance of those face to face connections and providing people an excuse to take action is what the movement is all about.

  • HOW CAN PEOPLE PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT?

We want people to register their intention to get connected face to face at www.GenWellProject.org and become part of the global movement to make the world a happier and healthier place. Make us the excuse to send out the invite that you have been meaning to send out, but just got a little too busy or distracted to make it happen. Whether it’s friends, family, neighbours or colleagues, spending time with others is good for your mental and physical health.

  • WHEN IS THE NEXT GenWell Weekend?

  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO CONNECTING FACE TO FACE AND BUILDING SOCIAL CONNECTIONS?

Research has clearly shown that there are many health benefits from spending more time with others and the relationships that evolve from them.

    1. Increased mental and physical well-being
    2. Lower levels of anxiety and depression
    3. Increased happiness
    4. Higher self-esteem
    5. Greater empathy for others
    6. Helps you recover from disease
    7. A 50% increase in your chances of living longer
    8. Increased loneliness
    9. Increased anxiety
    10. Increased states of depression
    11. Increased later in life cognitive decline
    12. Vulnerability to disease and death
    13. Increased mortality

In general, increased isolation increases the risk of premature death from all causes by 50% and has an effect on your mortality risk roughly comparable to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and greater than obesity and physical inactivity. That is why we want to inspire you to get connected on the next GenWell Weekend.

  • WHO CAN BE A GENERATOR?

Everyone can be a Generator! By planning and registering your intention to host your own GenWell Project and get people together face to face you are a Generator of great connections and conversations! You can register your GenWell Project here, and by doing so you become part of a global movement of human connection as well as get entered into random draws just for registering. We appreciate your leadership in getting your friends, family or community together and are excited to hear about your story after the event. Don’t forget, the size of your gathering isn’t the important part. It’s about getting connected and enjoying the people that you invite to spend time with.

  • WHAT IS A GenWell Project?

A GenWell Project is any gathering inspired by the GenWell Project message and its mission to make the world a happier and healthier place by getting people connected face to face. We want you to register your gathering on our website so we can see the impact that the campaign is having around the world. It can be as small as you and a friend or neighbour having coffee, to a family or extended family BBQ, a street long pot luck or pancake breakfast or maybe a ball hockey or basketball game. We aren’t particular about what you do, we just want you to make us the excuse to reach out and get connected face to face for GenWell Weekend and assist in supporting healthy connection habits moving forward!

  • HOW BIG DOES IT NEED TO BE?

There is no commitment to size. It is whatever works for you. It might be you and your neighbour for a coffee, the extended family for a BBQ,  it might be the kids on the street for a basketball game or it might be a street long pot luck. Whatever you want to do in order to create some face to face connections that will drive some incredibly healthy results.

  • IS THERE A COST?

Absolutely not. The investment that people are going to make is in themselves and in the people that they bring together. Does it get any better than that? No cost and you and those you reached out to reap all the rewards! For registering you also get a chance to win prizes from our partners! Read full contest rules.

  • WHAT IF PEOPLE ARE ALREADY WELL CONNECTED?

This movement Is truly about everyone. If things are going well in your life right now, congratulations. For the upcoming GenWell Weekend maybe you could reach out to someone you know who could benefit from connecting with you. Maybe someone who has lost their job, recently been sick or suffered an injury or maybe having some struggles in their relationship or family. Maybe even a senior who hasn’t got out lately or someone who is handicapped. Reaching out to people in times of need can be very powerful for those you reach out to…and you. We all go through ups and downs in life and the ability to give when everything is going well for you is a powerful gift. Thanks for stepping up.

  • WHAT ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T NATURALLY CONNECT WITH OTHERS?

For those who struggle with the idea of getting connected, we want you to use the GenWell Project as your excuse to reach out, even if it’s for the first time or the first time in a long time. It’s never too late to get started on building healthy connections with others around us. Maybe as a starting point you could reach out to someone you know who could use some support in their life? Remember, this is not a competition and the goal should be quality over quantity. Start by reaching out to those you feel most connected to and then broaden your gatherings as you see fit moving forward! Most importantly, have some fun!

  • WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE? WHAT DO I DO TO CREATE A GenWell Project?

Honestly, it can be anything that feels good to you. It could be as small as you inviting a neighbour or a friend over to your house for a coffee or tea, or it could be as big as a street party. It could be about gathering the kids on the street to play a sport, some arts and crafts or maybe a board game competition. We have lots of suggestions which you can check out on our website, but don’t make it complicated. If cooking seems too big of a task, order out or just do drinks, if money is an issue do a BYOD (bring your own drinks). The power is in the connection, not in what you serve or do to get people together. Most importantly, have fun and make connecting with others a habit moving forward.

  • WHAT IF I AM NERVOUS TO INVITE PEOPLE I DON’T SPEAK TO REGULARLY?

Know this. Many people feel the same way. Whether it is people that you know well or people that you don’t know well, it’s always a challenge to put yourself out there and invite people. The interesting thing is that research would suggest we all want to connect and actually need it to stay healthy. Check out our website to find the tools to make it easier and use The GenWell Project as your excuse to make the outreach. That way the focus remains on the good that you are focused on doing by bringing people together. The funny thing is that we have all been on the receiving end of an invite when we have got too tied as of late or distracted and we know how good it feels to know that someone else cares.

  • WHAT IF I LIVE IN A CONDO?

We think this is one of the greatest places to make some face to face connection happen! You are surrounded by people, but too often we get caught up in our world and miss the things that are important. It takes one small invite, one small gathering or one small activity to change everything. Whether it’s just you and your neighbour having a coffee, maybe a wine and cheese or pot luck for the neighbours on your floor or a couple floors. The goal is to build those relationships and that community that will make your time living in that apartment or condominium more enjoyable. Check out our tips and tools area to see what we have to help make your GenWell Project a reality.

  • WHERE CAN PEOPLE GO TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT GenWell Project?

You can register your intention to get connected with family, friends or neighbours here. There is no cost to do so and you can also make full use of the tools we have provided and find out more about the campaign and the benefits of social connection. Even better, by registering you get entered into random draws for prizing from our incredible partners! Read full contest rules.

  • WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE INFORMATION THAT I PROVIDE YOU?

Your information is held, confidentially, with The GenWell Project. We do not sell or give third party access to the information.

  • HOW OFTEN ARE YOU PLANNING ON SCHEDULING A GenWell Project?

We intend to host GenWell Weekends each spring and fall to remind people to stay connected. We hope that by hosting these regular occasions that people will make us the excuse to send out the invite that they have been meaning to send out and create healthy ongoing connections habits. We’ll keep coming back just to make sure you haven’t got distracted or tied up at the office and forgot about the incredible health benefits of staying connected face to face. Don’t forget, with each GenWell Weekend there is also an opportunity for you to make a difference in the life of someone else.
